Maestro Cares, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping homeless and neglected children in developing Latin American countries, is proud to announce the opening of an orphanage and school in Barranquilla, Colombia with the support of Goya Foods.

On April 11, 2015, Maestro Cares will host a grand opening event at the orphanage which will be open to the public. In addition to a ribbon cutting ceremony featuring representatives from Maestro Cares and Goya Foods, tours of the facility will be available to all in attendance.

The Barranquilla orphanage was made possible in great part by the commitment of Goya Foods and the company’s generous donation towards the orphanage’s construction. In 2014, Goya Foods partnered with Maestro Cares to assist in the development of Maestro Cares’ first orphanage in La Romana, Dominican Republic. In total, Goya has donated $300,000 to Maestro Cares and over 100,000 pounds of food to feed the children. They have also incorporated a mentorship program with Goya employees by pairing them with children from the orphanage in order to help support and guide them through their school years.

“We are proud to work with a foundation like Maestro Cares which shares our dedication and commitment to bringing aid to the children in Latin American communities who need it most,” said Bob Unanue, President of Goya Foods.

The Barranquilla facility will serve over 200 children in the area, providing shelter and schooling to orphans who previously had access to neither. It is the second orphanage opened by Maestro cares in just the last twelve months.

In April 2014, Maestro Cares toasted the completion of “Niños de Cristo Orphanage” in La Romana, Dominican Republic with a celebration featuring the foundation’s co-founders, entrepreneur Henry Cárdenas and Latin music icon Marc Anthony.

Although Maestro Cares is taking a moment to celebrate the completion of its second project, the foundation continues to plow ahead, setting its sights on a number of impactful projects planned in countries including Mexico and Peru.
